It’s been an interesting week for certain video game developers, as a “leak” from Wal-Mart Canada accidentally spoiled a lot of things for a lot of people. For those who don’t know, there was a large set of video games that were exposed on the site as “coming this year” or “coming soon”. While some titles were obvious, or expected, there were a few surprises that were littered among the bunch. The biggest one being Rage 2. A sequel to a game that came out in 2010.
Well, developer Bethesda took this rather well…by poking fun at Wal-Mart and teasing a reveal of the game soon. Well now, they’ve released the first trailer for Rage 2, and it may not be what you’re expecting. Check it out.
As you can see, the trailer is both very powerful, and very dark in certain ways. For this depicts people who have embraced an apocalyptic world. But also aren’t afraid to have a bunch of paint in it and sing to “Ready To Die” by Andrew WK.
Many are a bit confused by this very light tone for the game, however, it should be noted that this is merely the reveal trailer for the game. A gameplay trailer is actually going to arrive tomorrow, and will no doubt do more to flesh out the game.
Now, the original Rage was made by iD Software (the legendary team behind Doom), and it featured a deep dark story about a world trying to live after a meteor strike. You wake up and find yourself alone in a world that’s trying to kill you for a variety of reasons. It was meant to be the next evolution of first-person shooters, but it didn’t work out that way.
We’ll have to see how Rage 2 stacks up.Hopefully we’ll get a release date for the title along with the gameplay trailer.
