PS4 Wins Console Battle For February Says NPD
Every month matters when it comes to video game sales. For the last thing that developers and publishers want is a decline in video game sales and video game console sales. But also, every month gives an indication as to the interest that gamers have in title both AAA and indie. As such, people look forward to the monthly NPD numbers to see what console sold the best, and what games sold the best. The numbers for February have been released, and in February, the PS4 came out on top.
It’s not known at present how much the console won by, but any victory is a true victory for Sony. After all, the Nintendo Switch has been dominating sales the last few months, especially during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons, and even won January despite not having a major release. So no matter the reason, this is a good bit of news for PS4.
If we were to speculate on why the PS4 didn’t so well in February, it would likely be because there were two major games that came out at the end of January in Monster Hunter: World and Dragon Ball FighterZ. We think that the momentum of those games helped the console sales numbers for the PlayStation 4.
Speaking of those games, Monster Hunter: World once again took the top spot in software sales. This isn’t surprising, as the game has sold over 5 million units since its launch on January 26th, and it no doubt sold a lot in February. As for FighterZ, it slipped down to the No.4 spot, but that’s still pretty good for a fighting game based on an anime.
If you’re wondering about how the Nintendo Switch did, it was at No.2 in console sales, but the NPD states that Switch games sales actually helped stabilize the market which were declining a bit amongst the other consoles.
