PS VR Could See 130+ Games To Release This Year
Video game technology has evolved greatly over the years, and because of that, people and companies are always trying to guess what the next great evolution of technology will be. We’ve seen high-definition graphics, we’ve seen motion controls, we’ve seen portable play, and now, we have virtual reality gaming. But, though this new technology is enticing, it’s not exactly booming out the gate. In fact, the only real major success in the VR marketplace is the PS VR, which has done surprisingly well since launch.
So far, the VR headset has sold over 2 million units, which is actually very good considering the state of VR technology and those who want to participate in it. Sony apparently though is deciding to take their good fortune with the PS VR and advance it heavily in 2018. For they told Nikkei that they want to increase the number of games coming to the platform. But not by like 10, or 20, or even 50, but by 130.
For the record, the PS VR currently has 150 games to its name since its launch in October 2016, so for 130 to come out in just this year alone? That not only shows Sony’s dedication to the device but also, how many people are willing to make games for it, which in and of itself could be a gamechanger.
Sony has been taking steps to try and make the VR headset more “approachable” to those who are still hesitant about the technology. They’ve lowered the price point, been making special bundles, and have been contacting major game companies to try and get them to bring titles to the headset. One of the biggest ones was Bethesda, who brought three of their most recent titles to the PS VR with great detail and quality.
The question now will be how well the system does given the now onslaught of titles that will be coming.
