Portal 2 Improves Local Co-Op With New Update
Portal 2 got a sudden new update that brings some much-needed improvements to the game’s local cooperative mode.
This is a title that will soon be 9 years old. Valve released this incredibly compelling and innovative co-op puzzler way back in 2011. That’s why it’s strange that only now they decided to improve local co-op for people with a controller and a mouse and keyboard. First, we get to see an announcement of a VR Half-Life title, and now this. What’s next? A new huge content update for Team Fortress 2? Perhaps that’s actually going to happen. I bet they’re going to announce more than just Half-Life: Alyx. Or at least I hope they do.
At least one of the best co-op titles of all times now lets one player with a controller and one with a keyboard and mouse enjoy the game together. That’s something. Maybe it’s even time to revisit this cult-classic with a friend.
So, is most of this update just support for controllers? Actually, yes, that appears to be the case. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Portal 2 is incredibly well-polished, so there’s not much to fix there. I’m quite surprised that such an old Valve title even got an update of any kind. Maybe Valve is trying to calm down the fans that wanted Half-Life 3 but instead got the announcement of a VR title. That might just be the truth as a lot of people are still quite bitter over Alyx.
