Politics Plays A Factor In Cyberpunk 2077’s Story
When it comes to the stories of video games, it’s often asked by the dev team how far they’re willing to go. Or, in which direction they want to push their stories. Often times, they look to their genre, or the style of their game to see what options are available to them, and sometimes they go by what feels right. In Cyberpunk 2077, players will find themselves in a dystopian/utopian city, and that was all the excuse CD Projekt Red needed to put politics as a focal point of the story.
“Cyberpunk 2077 is a game about people with power at the top and people at the bottom with none,” CD Projekt Red quest designer Patrick Mills said in the Official Xbox Magazine. “That power can come from money, hierarchies, technology and violence.”
So clearly there are going to be many levels to this, and though you may not be fighting political figures per se, you will feel the effects of them.
He also went on to note that the games’ world is meant to be one that reflects what’s going on in our own world:
“It’s a place that is very critical of the world in which we live, in interesting and complex ways and we hope we can get that across. Cyberpunk 2077 is about a world where a vanishingly small number of ultra-rich individuals at the top of intractable corporate power structures reign over a disintegrating world where the vast majority of the population lives in an endless cycle of poverty and violence. How different that is from our world depends a lot on your perspective, I suppose.”
It’s interesting to hear them say that, and it’s going to just as interesting to dive into the world once the game releases. Truly this is going to be one very unique and special title.
