Pokemon Let’s Go Adding Gym Requirements?
When the Pokemon Let’s Go titles were announced, there was a bit of a division amongst gamers about them. On one hand, the titles are meant to be a fusion of sorts between the Pokemon core titles and the hit mobile game Pokemon GO, and Nintendo has made it clear that the purpose of these titles is to ensure that the casual fan can get into the series without having to know all the ins and outs of the games. However, because of the casual nature, hardcore fans aren’t sure if they’re going to want to play it.
This sentiment has grown with recent reveals involving the Gym Leaders. A recent trailer and screenshots proved that there are now requirements for entering and fighting against Gyms and Gym Leaders. Mainly, you will have to have a Pokemon of a certain Type and make sure they are at a “proper” level
The fanbase is again a bit at odds about this. For the casual players, it’s a way to make sure they don’t get overwhelmed by the Gym Leaders just because they don’t have the “right Pokemon” in their team. However, for the hardcore crowd, this is an annoyance, because part of the fun of Pokemon is picking your own team and building them up to face any obstacle. This essentially prohibits you from having the team you want, or at the very least delays when you can have it.
Also, if you don’t have the “right Pokemon” at a certain time, it means you’ll have to go find a Pokemon of that type and grind to bring it up to a “worthy” level, which will likely be an annoyance to many.
The games will still sell, there is no doubt about that, but it’s going to be interesting to see how both hardcore fans and critics react to these changes when Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee arrive on November 16th.
