PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Will Debut Desert Map At The Game Awards
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is one of the most popular games of the year. Despite only releasing this year, the game has been bought on Steam Early Access over 20 million times, which is staggering no matter how you look at it. But furthermore, the game is constantly breaking records via its large playerbase. So, to accompany them, developer Bluehole has been working on expanding the game any way they can. Including, by bringing some new maps into the fold. The latest of which will be getting a world premiere look very soon.
For, on December 7th, The Game Awards will arrive, and according to host Geoff Keighley, the game will show off the first ever footage of its Desert Map at the awards show. This map has been teased since July, and getting to see it for the first time will no doubt bring players some joy.

This is actually one of two maps set to arrive for the game, the other is set in the Adriatic Sea, no word or look on that one as of yet. It’s interesting to note that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has been nominated for several awards via The Game Awards, not the least of which is Game of the Year, which has raised quite a bit of controversy among players. For, in their minds, the game shouldn’t be nominated for GOTY as it’s not a fully released game yet. It’s an “early access” game, one that is full of bugs and glitches that should prevent it from nomination.
Regardless though, developer Bluehole likely has bigger things to worry about, including getting the game done before its self-imposed deadline of December 31st, 2017. Which we don’t know if they’ll make.
