PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Sets Record on Steam

Reports from Steam Spy suggest that roughly six million players have a copy of the popular PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. Yesterday saw a massively impressive statistic, which according to tracking saw around 481,304 players going at it on the open world game, which puts PUBG above the likes of heavyweight games such as Grand Theft Auto V, Fallout 4 and Payday 2 in terms of peak player counts.

This is based on non-Valve games, and presents a record that Brendan Greene was happy enough to send a tweet out about stating: “We now hold the record for the highest peak player count of any non-Valve game! GG WP everyone.”

The game passed the milestone of five million sales last week, with the sixth million sales mark being surpassed soon after. Since it launched in March, PUBG has so achieved an outstanding rise to fame, and given how it’s gone so far, it doesn’t look like the momentum will be shifting any other way than up anytime soon.

The game will also launch on consoles eventually, as the highest non-Valve title to be played on Steam continues its march towards video gaming stardom, offering an open world experience that has captivated fans around the world.
