PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds may be one of the most successful games of the past few years, but it’s also come with a more subtle cost. You see, the game is “out”, but it’s not really out. For the title is currently on Steam Early Access. What that means, is that the game will slowly update, via developer Bluehole, and make its way to release eventually. But, that means that there’s going to be a lot of bugs and glitches along the way. Which, players are having a serious problem with right now.
For you see, a new patch was released into the game today, and almost immediately, players started having serious problems. So much so, that they started a megathread on Reddit to discuss it and talk about what’s going on.
The problems do vary, but, there’s a constant of severe framerate drops, and even gameplay crashes that’s affected multiple users.
Sometimes it happens randomly, sometimes it’s when you open up the inventory screen over a fallen player, and sometimes it doesn’t happen at all until you least expect it. There are also other bugs that appear to be coming from the patch as well, which only makes the players even more unhappy.
These kinds of issues are what’s driving a big debate in the video game community right now. For you see, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has been nominated for Game of the Year by The Game Awards, and many are crying foul. Not just because it’s not a fully released game, but also because of issues like these. While it’s true that no game is “bug-free”, what PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has, and will likely continue to have until launch, is something much different.
For this game is going to have bugs for a while, which makes many wonder why it was nominated at all other than hype and sales. What do you think?
