PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Receives First Patch Since Full Launch
It’s been months in the making, but PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has launched its 1.0 version on Steam. The game was launched on Steam Early Access earlier in the year, and since then has been working with gamers to help make the official launch version as good as it could be. Months and 30 million players later, they were able to launch, but it hasn’t been as smooth as developer Bluehole would’ve liked. Major issues are plaguing the game, and fans are begging for some fixes.
Thankfully, Bluehole has revealed that an update for the game has gone live (it was installed earlier today). And with it comes many updates and changes, including attempts to fix the “rubber-banding” issues that have plagued players. Bluehole offered their apologies on this issue:
“We would like to sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the intermittent lag and character position readjustment issues our players are experiencing during matches.”
Interestingly enough, it wasn’t a singular issue that caused the rubber-banding. Rather, it was multiple things that when combined caused the issue to not just occur, but multiply once the 1.0 update was made live. With the update that’s come out today, they’ve attempted to fix this problem by taking care of and adjusting some of the problems that have caused the issue. Such as bottlenecking when a match starts, and removing “inefficiencies” that hurt the overall code.
They know that this won’t permanently fix the problem, but hopefully, it’ll make it more manageable. They intend to continue doing work on the issue until it’s resolved.
As for other things the update changed, they’ve adjusted the map ratio for Erangel and Miramar so that they’re the same. The Replay system has also been adjusted. For now, you can only view your death after 3 minutes have passed. Thus, you won’t be able to give enemy locations to your friends.
