PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Being “Modified” For Chinese Release
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is easily the biggest game out there right now player wise. For while millions have bought and played various titles over the year, this game brings them to the table basically daily, and every single day brings more people to the table. In fact, it continually breaks records on Steam for having 2+ million people playing at the same time. The interesting part though, is that the game is about to get a whole lot bigger, as the developers’ spinoff group PUBG Corp has made a deal with publisher Tencent to release the game in China.
Without a doubt that’s a major move. The Chinese gaming community is massive, and when they get a game they like? Profits are made for that developer. It’s taken a while to get to this point, but it’ll likely be worth it in both the short and long term. However, there are some…terms…in this agreements. Mainly, the game is going to be “modified” for the country:
C.H. Kim, chief executive officer of PUBG Corp noted in an interview, “Tencent will localize and operate the game by catering to the preferences of Chinese gamers. We will also offer a different, fun experience on PC.”
Now, to be fair, this is…well…fair. Why wouldn’t a game make sure things are tailored to the home country in both language and other cultural things? The problem though is that this won’t be the only change for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. As a report notes that the game will also add “socialist core values, Chinese traditional culture and moral rules.”
So, it appears as though the game will also be trying to deliver a more political message for China. Believe us when we say that this isn’t the time that this has been done. No doubt once it’s released, people will say what they think about this.
Why it being released in china if already chinese servers
