PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Might Get Region-locked Servers
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds latest patch was released, and in addition to the new weapon skin system that came to the game and the brand new crates that were added, Bluehole also talked about the possibility of region-locked servers. This would be a big change to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, but it could be something that the game needs right now.
Now you may be thinking, what made them come to such a decision? Well, Bluehole implemented a ping-based matchmaking system, so in order to further improve this system, they want to remove all network issues by making servers which allow people from the same region to play together while being invisible to players from other regions. But, players from different regions could still connect and play together if they choose to. In their words:
Through this new approach we are aiming to provide a better gameplay experience as it will improve network issues and help with linguistic barriers. We are going to run a limited test of this approach as more detailed research and analysis should come before global application.
Since we got that out of the way, let’s briefly talk about the weapon skin system. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds players can now select specific skins for their favorite guns. To equip a weapon skin, you just need to head to the WEAPONS section in the CUSTOMIZATION menu and then select the skin of your choosing. You get skins either through the free “Raider crate” or the paid “Triumph Crate”.
