If one thing is for certain, it’s that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has skyrocketed to immense popularity on Steam, tallying up to nearly 10 million sales so far. The game’s post-release fame has been well documented, so when it went down without warning, many players were understandably left bemused.
With many of the staff off sick from convention sickness at Gamescom 2017, there is little word on just what is actually happening, with the exception of the announcement on Twitter that the leaderboards would be reset. This was followed by another announcement on the same platform stating that it would be difficult to play or log in whilst the team removed in-game graffiti related to Gamescom and altering the leaderboard system.
This has been met with inevitable skepticism by many fans, especially since there is now a 1gb update required to launch the game. The big question is why did the game have to go down for such minor issues? Naturally, a lot of players were expecting something far worse to warrant PUBG being rendered unplayable.
Perhaps there’s something below the surface that has yet to be revealed as to why this issue occurred, otherwise it seems a tad unnecessary for such small changes.
