PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Gets “Nature Documentary”
Let’s be honest here, we mostly play video games because we want to have fun, right? That’s why multiplayer focused games are in abundance right now. As players want to jump into matches with friends or players around the world and just go to town in whatever mode they feel is the most fun. One of the most played games that’s out right now is PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, and by “most played”, we mean over 2.7 billion hours spent in it since its release last year.
So, after having that many hours played, what’s new that could be done with that game? Well, how about making a “nature documentary”? Player Sonny Evans decided to use PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Replay System (which is used to view how one dies, and helps in catching cheaters) to create a full-on “documentary” detailing a match on the map of Mirimar, complete with over the top voice and “expert analysis”. The results speak for themselves, check it out.
Evans is known for his work with the Rockstar Editor in Grand Theft Auto V and making cool videos from there. He notes to PC Gamer that using the Replay System for the documentary was a bigger challenge, but he also saw the potential:
“Even though PUBG is pretty limited for cinematics—it’s not an open world sandbox game like GTA, for example—there are still loads of options.”
It really is something special, and this might inspire a whole new wave of videos and “films” from players after seeing it. Yes, it will take time and dedication, but, the results are usually very worth it.
Plus, with 26 million+ copies sold, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has plenty of player base to try and create something special and new. The only question now is, what video will be the next one to get our attention?
