PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds China Team Makes Live-Action Short Of Game
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds feels like it’s perfect for a movie typesetting. In fact, it’s kind of based on the movie Battle Royale (which came LONG before the Hunger Games, just saying). Anyway, having 100 people fight to the death, with only person surviving, the unexpectedness of when you’ll potential die, and all for that Chicken Dinner, it has all the makings of a Hollywood film. Well, in China, two mobile versions of the game were released, and are doing incredibly well, but now, the developer has released a live-action short portraying the game as a movie.
Called a “realistic trailer”, the video shows all the key elements of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds in live-action. For example, there is the plane scene where everyone parachutes into the drop zone. There’s the collecting of guns and items, and of course, killing everyone who comes into your path, or even, saving someone so you can team up with them later.
They even nail the “unexpectedness of death” I mentioned earlier, as one of the narrators gets sniped mid-sentence. Add to that a vehicle chase, a player escaping bombardment, all the remaining players being forced into a small area to finish things off, and of course, winding back up in the plane to do it all over again.
The trailer is actually very well made, even giving some of the players the “classic” looks of the characters, including the helmet of the show character in the main character art for the game (main image of this piece).
So, could Hollywood make a PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds movie? Of course they could, it’d be very easy. In fact, this actually feels like a game that Hollywood would try to make into a full-on film. There are some things that would need to be worked out of course, but yeah, it could totally happen.
