Platinum Games Wants Wonderful 101 On Nintendo Switch

One of the surprising reasons that the Nintendo Switch is such a success isn’t just its unique 1st party lineup (many of which have sold over 1 million units), or the fact that it’s a place indie games sell really well (with more and more indie games being announced every week for it), but because the system has been getting ports of Wii U games and doing very well with them. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Pokken Tournament and more have come to the system. And now, Platinum Games wants to add Wonderful 101 to that list.

For those who don’t remember, Wonderful 101 was a unique title from beloved 3rd party developer Platinum Games, the team behind Nier: Automata and Bayonetta, among others. The game was special in various ways, and was one of the few 3rd party exclusives on the Wii U. It featured the player controlling a group of superheroes and combining them for special attacks and abilities.

During a panel in Croatia, Platinum Games Director Hideki Kamiya asked this of the audience:

“We’re going to knock the audience participation up a bit,” said Kamiya via a translator. “They’re still trying to negotiate with Nintendo whether a possible Wonderful 10 Switch release could happen but it always helps when the people in the audience at Reboot clap if they’d actually buy a Switch version of Wonderful 101. So anybody who would buy that, please clap…”

Wonderful 101

The room apparently exploded with applause, proving that the game was at the very least popular in Croatia. Wonderful 101 didn’t sell well on the Wii U, but that might’ve been because of the systems poor sales and the fact that the game was a bit hard on new players due to its unique control scheme. If it did come to the Switch, some of the controls would have to be changed, and that could have a bigger impact on who wants to try it.

The ball is now in Nintendos’ court.
