Pillars of Eternity II just got its first DLC, the Beast of Winter. This is one of those games that are huge in scope, and now even if you completed the game, this DLC will keep you occupied for quite a while.
The developers even released a new backer update video to talk about their favorite parts of the expansion. Pillars of Eternity II is an RPG that belongs more in the old-school than the new school, and that’s why a lot of newer fans of the RPG genre can’t get into it as easily as someone who played games like Planescape: Torment. Still, it isn’t too hard to get into, and once you start playing, you won’t stop.
The lead area designer of the game, Matthew Perez, said that they use these DLC packs to expand the base game. It is easier to build something amazing if you have a good foundation, and the Beast of Winter DLC will showcase some spectacular dragon animations, a cool new companion named Vatnir, and we will come face to face with a culture that is inspired by nihilistic religion.
In the DLC the player is approached by the cult that thinks that you’re the Duskspeaker. They want the harbinger of the end to go and celebrate the world’s end. Quite a strange event, but who doesn’t want to hang out with a bunch of people that are organizing a party because the world is ending? At the end of Beast of Winter, players will come face to face with something that even the gods are afraid of, and we can’t wait to see what that thing is.
