Overwatch Wins Best Ongoing Game Award
At The Game Awards, many titles from 2017 were honored with numerous awards, from art direction, to narrative, to best RPG, and more. But, there were categories for games that didn’t release this year, but were still going strong via player support. And the winner for “Best Ongoing Game” goes to…Overwatch. Blizzard’s team FPS game continues to wow and amaze both critics and players alike, and it’s very easy to see why the game won such an award. After all, Blizzard has been updating the game quite a bit since launch early last year.
In fact, since its launch, Blizzard has been dedicated to making the game better, bringing the world out in new and refreshing ways, and of course, trying to please players as best they can. After launch Overwatch has added several new modes of gameplay, including Arcade Mode, Competitive Play, and just recently, launching the Overwatch League, its dedicated eSports brand (which the game also won an award for).
Heck, just in the roster Blizzard has been killing it. They’ve added characters like the healing sniper Ana, the leader of Talon in Doomfist, the kid turned hero Orisa, and just recently, the genetic genius known as Moira. 27 characters now fill this game, and more are sure to come int he following months, and even years.
And, of course, we’d be remiss if we didn’t note the animated cutscenes that Blizzard continues to make. These short stories reveal key moments in the lives of the characters and are often very powerful narrative pieces that shows why Overwatch means so much to these characters, as well as why these characters deserve to be on the team. In fact, there are strong rumors that an Overwatch animated film is in the works.
Now, you could argue that there is a bit of bias to the game, as The Game Awards did give Overwatch Game of the Year last year…but honestly, it deserves it.
