Overwatch League Team From Florida To Honor Parkland Shooting Victims
There are things that transcend what we do in our lives, and sadly, one of those things that does that is a tragedy. And recently, the US suffered a major tragedy when a shooter went into a school in Parkland, Florida and killed 17 people. Since then, people from all over have been showing their support for that community and trying to make change happen so something like this will never happen again. In terms of support, this extends even to the Overwatch League.
The Overwatch League is comprised of teams from all over the US and the world. In regards to the US teams, they represent many of the states within the country, including Florida, who are known as the “Florida Mayhem”. They took to Twitter to show their support by asking their fans to help the community by pledging to the GoFundMe that’s being done for them. What’s more, they released a statement on the tragedy.
The Florida Mayhem players will come to the stage this week wearing patches honoring the community of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High following last week’s horrible event. Everyone in our organization has been touched by the impact of the act and the strength of those affected, and as proud representatives of Florida, we wish to demonstrate our support and promote continued positive outreach by the larger Overwatch population.
Very touching, and a good sign of loyalty to ones home state. Which, also applies to the CEO behind the team, Ben Spoont, who wrote:
As the community begins to heal, we felt a need to try and honor not only the victims, but also the message and passion that the community has since voiced. In honor of Parkland, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and the entire State of Florida which we represent we are proud to wear the Stoneman Douglas patch to bring both awareness and sense of community healing us all.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to that community as it continues to heal.
