The Overwatch League and social streaming service Twitch have announced a media-rights esports partnership, which will see that every match of the league being showcased to fans around the world. The first match of the debut season will begin today, and can be watched on the Overwatch League Twitch channel.
Fans of the league have been looking for a service in which they’d be able to have a viewing experience as convenient as Twitch, and now they have it. This is a two-year deal, which will see the entirety of league’s first two seasons, and will be a worldwide third-party digital provider, with the exception of China. This will provide the regular-season games, as well as playoffs, and championship matches, with streams being in English, French and Korean.
Armin Zerza, COO of Blizzard Entertainment, commented on the partnership: “Our fans love to engage with content on Twitch, and we wanted to drive significant viewership of the Overwatch League in its inaugural season and beyond. That’s why this historic and ground-breaking partnership is perfectly suited for Activision Blizzard, for Twitch, and—most importantly—for our growing global fanbase.”
Overwatch is now available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, with the league kicking off today.
