The Blizzard shooter Overwatch is making massive strides in the Esports scene, as the Overwatch League partners up with both sports and Esports leaders for major cities worldwide.
New owners include Robert Kraft, Chairman and CEO of the Kraft Group and the New England Patriots, Jeff Wilpon, Co-Founder and Partner of Sterling.VC and COO of the New York Mets, Noah Whinston, CEO of Immortals, Ben Spoont, CEO and Co-Founder of Misfits Gaming, Andy Miller, Chairman and Founder of NRG Esports, NetEase and Kevin Chou, Co-founder of Kabam.
Set to begin later this year, the Overwatch League presents an opportunity for both owners and players to be a part of the first major Esports league to feature a city-based structure, which intends to grow local fan bases for the respective teams. The first season will consist of regular season matches, which will be played at an Esports arena in Los Angeles. In the meantime, teams will develop their own local venues for home and away matches to be played in for the future.
More information, as well as a full schedule and ticket sales is set to be announced closer to launch. Games are set to be played on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
