Overwatch fan and self-taught 3D artist Joshua Llorente has created a Cairo-inspired map for the Blizzard shooter which has managed to capture the attention of game director, Jeff Kaplan. Made in Unreal Engine 4, the payload map looks absolutely brilliant, and offers a mix of Egyptian pillars with futuristic skylines, something that clearly appeals to to Overwatch.
After posting his work to Reddit last week, Jeff Kaplan went on to reply: “Amazing work! We’ll be in touch.” And now, Llorente has shared a walkthrough of the map, which looks just as good on the ground than it does from up high. As you can see, there is consistent architecture all the way through, and seems to be very well suited to Overwatch, should it come to fruition.
There is less focus than usual Overwatch maps, particularly for a payload map. This is because there appears to be quite a lot of passageways, so if Blizzard should decide to introduce this map, then perhaps they will look at altering and working on areas such as this.
Overwatch is now available on Xbox One, PS4 and PC. If Kaplan and the team do decide to adopt this map, it will be the first fan-made map to do so, which would be a great achievement.
