Overwatch 2018 World Cup Announced
The Overwatch World Cup first debuted two years ago, and that’s the first time we saw the best Overwatch players in the world battle it out for a chance to win a grand prize. That battle was fought again in 2017, and now that 2018 is here, it’s time for another Overwatch World Cup. If you consider yourself to be an excellent player, you might just be able to represent your country this year in Southern California.
Blizzard will be tracking the average skill of the top 150 players in each country, and by the end of the Competitive Season 9, which concludes on April 28, the best countries will then be invited to participate in the 2018 Overwatch World Cup. Those of you that want to prove themselves to the world need to work hard in order to push their country into the top 20. France, South Korea, Thailand, and the US are the countries that will host the four Group Stages this year, and they are automatically qualified for the tournament.
Blizzard is changing how the National Competition Committees are formed this year, as now they will consist of a GM, a coach, and a community lead, and members of the committee will be requited for their support during the World Cup. Players can compete for a spot on the team that will represent their country during the tryouts that the committees will hold from June 1 lasting until July 5.
