Overwatch: Symmetra Rework Detailed
Symmetra was always a weird pick in Overwatch, so naturally, Blizzard decided to rework her abilities to make her kit more enjoyable and viable. It seems like Symmetra was supposed to be a healer, with her turrets being able to heal instead of doing damage, but this was quickly scrapped. Because of how fast everything and everyone in Overwatch is, the healing instead of damage to her turrets felt too weird, so now she is officially a part of the Defense category of Heroes.
Her turrets may not become healing devices, but the way that they are deployed is changing. In the official Overwatch forum Geoff Goodman said this:
Instead of having to stick them directly onto a wall herself, she can now fire an un-deployed version like a projectile, which sticks to walls/ceilings/etc. Once it sticks, it will unfold like it does on the wall currently when she builds them.
This helps for a bunch of reasons but one of the big ones is that it makes it a lot easier to play her on offense or just be able to preposition her turrets much more easily/quickly.
This is a big change, as it allows Symmetra to be quick on her feet when it comes to her turrets, and her positioning with them can change rapidly, so she can adapt to any combat situation more quickly. The other big change that is being made to her is to her ultimate ability, which is now her Photon Barrier. Now, it is a static barrier that is infinite in size and has 5000 health. It acts like Mei’s Ice Wall, meaning that the players can change its orientation.
If you want a more in-depth look at her rework, you should check the Overwatch forums where her new kit was discussed.
