Overkill’s The Walking Dead Launches Second Season
The Walking Dead franchise is in a bit of an interesting place. For the TV shows are struggling to maintain their viewership, and the main show has just lost two of its main characters. The Walking Dead game series by Telltale Games was almost canceled because of the studio folding, but it was saved by Skybound Games. And then, there’s been the release of Overkill’s The Walking Dead, a fresh new entry into the franchise game wise. It’s had it’s own issues, ones that it hopes to fix a bit with some new content.
Not unlike other online titles, this game is a title that features seasonal content. But unlike those, this seasonal content expands the games world, and according to the team, Season 2 for their Walking Dead game has officially launched. Here’s the breakdown:
“Season two picks up with the main group of survivors facing new challenges in the aftermath of season one’s finale, including a powerful new enemy fortified on Washington, D.C.’s historic Capitol Hill. The first episode – ‘No Sanctuary’ – sees players stage a daring raid on a Georgetown church to rescue a potentially life-saving informant. Season two will feature nine episodes from November 2018 to June 2019, containing new missions, playable characters, weapons, mods and other surprises along the way,”
While this content will no doubt help the game in the realm of content, it’ll be interesting to see if it adds to the player base. For you see, Overkill’s The Walking Dead has only launched on PC, with the console versions on the Xbox One and PS4 coming next year. Due to this, the dev teams have noted that the game has underperformed a bit. Which is actually fair given the PC community and how it reacts or engages in certain titles.
We’ll just have to see how this all plays out.
