Overkill’s The Walking Dead Is Selling Horribly
Overkill’s The Walking Dead got pretty lousy reviews both from game critics and players, and now we know the game isn’t selling all that well.
Horrible human AI, flawed gameplay, very bad balancing, and various other issues plague this title. Most of us wanted it to be the spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead 2, but that wasn’t the case. For the majority of the time, Overkill’s The Walking Dead feels like a very unfinished game. It is full of great ideas and mechanics that could have been great. If the development team did a lot more polishing and balancing. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen, and the sales reflect these issues.
Starbreeze, the studio behind the game, made an official statement regarding the poor sales of this co-op action FPS, which we found out about thanks to VG24/7. The devs, as expected, are disappointed, but they say they have a base upon which they will build and expand their game. There is a player base for Overkill’s The Walking Dead, and so the devs are working hard to fix all the bugs and introduce new content. Season 2 is also on its way, and that will definitely bring lots of exciting and new things to the game. Let’s just hope it stays alive until then.
Starbreeze is even cutting the costs and increasing focus on core business which is internal and external development. Will they manage to fix their game and make it into something worthwhile our time? We don’t know, but we will stay tuned and report on any new findings as soon as they surface!
