There’s been a debate of sorts that has been going on for a while now, “Are video games art?” It’s an intriguing question when you think about it. Because on one hand, movies have had animated styles since nearly the beginning of film, and they’re considered art, same with television. So, why not games? This debate becomes more intense when a game comes along that is without a doubt art, and now, an updated version of one of those games has arrived: Okami HD.
Okami tells the tale of the sun goddess Amaterasu, who has taken the form of a white wolf in order to battle a demon name Orochi. For you see, where the land of Japan was once a flourishing place, Orochi has literally sucked the life out of it, and now Amaterasu must return the beauty to the land through her divine powers, and ensure the safety and happiness of its people forevermore.
As you travel throughout the land, you will try and recover the lost powers of Amaterasu, mainly through the power of her Celestial Brush, which she can use to create symbols which bring certain things to life, or strike down foes with great power and efficiency.
The original Okami was released in 2006, and was an instant hit. The beautiful hand-painted nature of the game made many jaws drop, and in the process, inspired so many that the game won numerous awards, including two “Game of the Year” awards by esteemed outlets. Now, Okami HD brings that world back in stunning high-definition, as well as 4K play if you’re able to handle that.
We’ve talked about the graphics a lot, but the gameplay itself is just as fun, there’s a reason this game keeps coming back (and even had a “prequel” game in Okamiaiden), so if you haven’t had the chance to play it yet, here’s your chance.
