No New Assassin’s Creed Next Year
The Assassin’s Creed was a beloved franchise when it first arrived. It had a unique look, special combat mechanics, a vast open world set in the past as well as the future, and gamers loved the feeling of a truly unique game. Ubisoft made sure to turn this game into a franchise, and for the first few titles, they did incredibly well. But then, they started to deliver a title from the franchise year after year after year, and the quality noticeably dropped.
So, the team at Ubisoft took a break, then came back to deliver Assassin’s Creed Origins, which revitalized the series in terms of quality and sales. Then, Ubisoft surprised everyone by revealing that the next game, Odyssey, would be coming just one year after. But, don’t expect one to arrive next year, for it won’t happen.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot told Gamespot:
“On Assassin’s, we had a game [in 2018] and we have one this year, but we are not going to have a full-fledged Assassin’s next year,” the CEO told the site. “It’s just because the team were working separately, so we have two games now, one year after the other. But next year you’re not going to have a fully fledged one.”
The question now becomes, what does this mean for Odyssey? Origins had both DLC and events, can we expect the same for it?
“What you’ll have is lots of content coming on [Assassin’s Creed Odyssey]. The team really want to give, on a regular basis, some new possibilities for play, so when you get [Odyssey] this year, you’re going to get in for a couple of years, actually.”
So there you have it, the game will apparently be enough to tide you over until the next title officially arrives, like in 2020. It’s good to know that Ubisoft has learned from the past.
