Yesterday, images dropped of the potential cover for the Xbox One version of No Man’s Sky. On it, the cover clearly showed four color-coated characters exploring the world. This seemed to indicate to players and fans of the game that multiplayer would be added to the title, something that was promised when the game launched years ago. But, the question was, is this real? Well, Hello Games has come forward and confirmed that the game will be getting multiplayer for all version via its “Next” update.
The update will come out on the 24th of July, which is when the Xbox One version of No Man’s Sky will launch. And the team had a lot to say about it:
“We were delighted by the reaction to Next, even though we just shared the name so far, it means so much to see that people were already pumped about it. The reaction that No Man’s Sky is coming to Xbox One was lovely too. I’m excited for new players to be able to play such an expanded game from the start.”
According to founder Sean Murray, the Hello Games team have been working this for quite some time. Six months of playtesting helped refine things, but also, helped making them even more special.
“For example, you’ll be able to explore the universe with your friends, or bump into random travelers,” details Murray. “You can help friends to stay alive, or prey on others to survive. Tiny shelters or complex colonies that you build as a team are shared for all players. Fight as a pirate or a wingman in epic space battles with friends and enemies. Race exocraft across weird alien terrains, creating race tracks and trails to share online.”
It does sound like a complete experience, not unlike what we were meant to have when the game launched. Whether it truly lives up to the hype though is to be decided.
