Nintendo Switch To Keep Getting “New Experiences” To Stay On Top Of Market
When you look at the sales of consoles and software for the last year, one name continually springs up to the top more often than not. The Nintendo Switch. This console has set the world on fire in many ways, and it continues to grow in popularity with virtually every month that goes by. And despite being over a year old now, the system is still hard to come by because people keep wanting to buy it. At the end of March 31st of this year, nearly 18 million Switch’s had been bought, and nearly double that were the software sales.
The big question now is, “will Nintendo keep up their momentum in their second year?” Well, they’re off to a slow start, but an effective one. Kirby Star Allies released in March and sold over a million copies in two weeks. May is full of Wii U ports like Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze and Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition. But Nintendo knows that to keep the Nintendo Switch on top, they need new 1st and 3rd party titles.
And the current president of Nintendo, Tatsumi Kimishima, had a lot to say about that in a Q&A, where he noted:
We need to steadily provide new experiences that will keep consumers always wanting to play Nintendo Switch in order to maintain sales for a long time. Our company has a lot of experience with selling gaming systems, and we will actively incorporate everything we have learned, including our failures, into our planning.
Many are hoping that E3 2018 will reveal some of their plans for the Switch this year, cause much of it is still a mystery. We know Super Smash Bros For Switch is coming this year, but many think it will be delayed. And we know of some big 3rd party titles coming like Octopath Traveler, but the 1st party selections are pretty slim right now. But, all it takes is one Nintendo Direct or E3 conference and everything changes.
