Despite what some people say, reviews do matter. Yes, some reviews may not match your own opinion on something, but they can help influence people on whether they try something out or not. This goes especially in video games, as early reviews of upcoming titles can sway someone towards a purchase, a rent, or a straight up no-buy. If you’re hoping that the upcoming God of War title for PS4 will rank highly in the eyes of reviewers, hope no more, for it’s set a new standard for the system.
The game comes out this Friday, and early reviews are praising it as a near masterpiece, if not a full-on masterpiece. 97 people have reviewed the game, and on Metacritic, it ranks with a score of 95. This makes it the highest-rated PS4 game of all time. Not including ports like GTA V and The Last of us.
Many well-known sites like Polygon, Eurogamer, IGN and more gave the game a perfect score, which is saying something as to the quality of the game from top to bottom.
Many reviews praise what Santa Monica Studios, the team behind the original God of War saga, did with this new beginning for the franchise. They praise the new take on Kratos, and how he interacts with his son Arteus. They like the new way that combat is handled, and the deep story that makes you feel for the characters both big and small from start to finish.
Indeed, this was a bold direction to take God of War. For the original saga was very much about hacking and slashing until all the gods of Olympus were dead. But here, the intent is much more personal, refined, deep.
Still, you should judge the game for yourself when the game comes out. And when you do, let us know what you think.
