The Need For Speed franchise was at one time the prominent racing game in the genre. But, as many franchises do, they failed to capture the imaginations of their gamers with later iterations. So, Ubisoft decided to go back to the drawing board and think of some new ways to entice gamers to try their title. The result was Need For Speed Payback, and despite some major flaws, it did attract some players, and a new update will attract them even more.
An update for Need For Speed Payback was released last week, and with it came not just new cars, but a brand new way to play the game via its Speedcross mode. This new mode puts you in a Mini John Cooper Works Countryman and has you going up against the reigning Speedcross champ, the Barracuda. However, this isn’t a simple racing competition, oh no, this is one where your skill as a driver gets scored, and you need to make each point attempt count if you’re hoping to win.
Drift Zones, Jumps, Speedtraps and Smackables are where you’ll be judged, so go for the big points, and go fast to make it look even better.
But, what’s a Need For Speed update without some cars to be added, huh? Well, the update has also brought some “abandoned cars” for you to “acquire”. From now on, when you drive through Fortune Valley, you’ll occasionally come across some cars just waiting there with no driver. They’re yours if you find them. And there are some pretty cool cars waiting to be found. Including, Mazda RX-7 Spirit R, Volvo 242DL, Volvo Amazon P130, Plymouth Barracuda, Nissan Skyline 2000 GTR and the BMW M3 Evolution II E30.
So, if you’ve been looking for a new reason to jump back into Need For Speed Payback, this is the update for you.
