Monster Hunter: World is Capcom’s Fastest-Selling Game
There’s a difference hoping for success and getting success. After all, you can work very hard on a project, but it doesn’t meet the goals you set for it. That’s definitely a stress that Capcom was having during the development of Monster Hunter: World. The Monster Hunter series has always been popular in Japan, but they wanted to expand its reach to the rest of the world, and made this game as a result. But were fans going to respond to it in the right way? Yes, yes they did.
For on Capcom’s official website, they revealed that Monster Hunter: World has shipped six million copies worldwide. Now, “shipped” doesn’t mean “sold”, however, you have no reason to ship that much if the units aren’t moving. This makes the game the fastest-selling title in Capcom history, which is actually quite an accomplishment. What’s more, the PC version of the game is coming later this year, so that will add to its success potentially.
Monster Hunter: World is currently the “top paid” title on Xbox One, and it’s apparently doing just as well as on the PS4. The big question though is, and we don’t have the numbers for this, is what the divide is in regards to where the games are being sold. Meaning, let’s just say they’ve sold 5 million at present, that Japan could have 3.5 million copies bought, while the US/UK and other nations have only bought 1.5 million copies. While this is good for sure, in context, it’s likely not what Capcom wants. But, until we have the numbers, we honestly don’t know.
Also, it’s important to note that the game is hardly perfect. There’s been many issues with matchmaking and various server issues, but Capcom has said they’re working on fixing it.
All in all though, this is great news for Capcom and the Monster Hunter franchise.
