Is Minecraft Creator Notch Making Something New?
When it comes to important games of the last decade or so, Minecraft is by far one of the most successful, most played, and most beloved titles to have come out during that time. The game is addictive in its simplicity and gameplay. The ability to travel around a cube-based world, collect materials, then build virtually anything you want is something players from all over have taken a part in. And the game continues to grow and expand with each passing year.
The game was made by Markus “Notch” Persson and his company Mojang. And needless to say they were very successful when Minecraft exploded onto the world. So much so that Microsoft came in and bought it all from Notch for 2 billion dollars. Since then? He honestly hasn’t done much. But…then he started to drop images and teasers on the internet, seemingly teasing that he’s working on another project.
Though Notch was anything but definitive, he posted things that were clearly from an in-game engine, and had a similar style to Minecraft, if not a bit more refined. Many have wondered if Notch would bring a sequel to the series, but he’s said previously that wasn’t going to be the case.
He calls this project “Voxels_WebGL2.”, and the image above, and other images and videos which can be seen here, are being made via an engine called “Core.” When a fan straight up asked what he was making on Twitter, Notch replied
“I have no idea. It’s a currently a voxel engine that runs in a web browser at 99fps with 60+km view distance with real time terrain generation. Oh, and all voxels are modifiable in runtime, although that will eat up the ram pretty fast.”
Makes you wonder, doesn’t it? What exactly is he up to? Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
