Middle Earth: Shadow of War Will Have Microtransactions at Launch
Monolith Productions have announced that Middle Earth: Shadow of War will have microtransactions when the game launches.
This will enable players to buy Loot Chests, which contain gear, weapons and the odd XP boost, whilst War Chests allows you to add Orc followers to your army, which will be a key role as you progress through Shadow of War.
Gold will be available to earn in-game, but only in small amounts at times that are few and far between. The alternative form of currency available is Mirian, which is earned by playing the game and beating Treasure Orcs, destroying Gear for Mirian, finding Mirian stashes and destroying Orc followers to obtain Gear. It has yet to be revealed whether you can purchase Mirian with real money or not.
Microtransactions in games is rarely welcome news, and hopefully when it comes to Middle Earth: Shadow of War there won’t be too much of an imbalance because of this revelation. More importantly, the last thing that this game needs is to put players in a position where they feel that purchasing microtransactions is mandatory in order to get the most out of the experience.
Middle Earth: Shadow of War launches on October 10th on PC, Xbox One and PS4.
