Middle-Earth: Shadow Of War Fully Removes Microtransactions
There is a war going on in gaming right now. It features on one side the publishers and developers of video games, who want to both make good titles, yet make a lot of money with it. On the other side, are the gamers, who want to play good games, yet not have to keep paying to play those games. This is the war of microtransactions. And it’s taking many forms, including ones for titles like Middle-Earth: Shadow Of War, which had them, but not in an imposing way.
The original Middle-Earth title, Shadow of Mordor, didn’t have microtransaction at all, so when Middle-Earth: Shadow Of War was revealed to have them, gamers freaked. To be fair, the dev team made it so that you DIDN’T have to buy a single thing from microtransactions in order to progress through the game, but gamers were still mad they were in there at all. So, the team promised to remove them. And now, via a Steam update, all microtransactions are now out of the title.
“The Market is removed from the game, replaced with an updated Garrison menu that allows access to your Garrison Orcs, Chests, Training Orders and Boosts.”
This removal has also affected other parts of the game. For example:
The Spoils of War Rewards and Community Challenge Reward Chests no longer contain Orcs. Instead, they now focus on Training Orders.
As for the currency, players can expect a nice reward waiting for them in the game:
With the removal of the Market, any unspent Gold currency has been converted into Gold Loot Chests.
With this removal, another title has become complete free of microtransactions. One of the few to do so willingly and with complete and total respect to the gamers. We’ll have to see if anyone else does the same.
