Microsoft Is Focusing On Creating New Games For Xbox Platforms
During the current console war, one thing that has stood out by many is that Microsoft doesn’t have the biggest 1st party arsenal, especially when compared to its rivals Sony and Microsoft. So, with E3 now in effect, many expected Microsoft to reveal many big new titles for their system the Xbox One, and during their press conference at the show, they did. But one thing they made sure to note is that not only are they in the works to acquire more studios to put under their banner, their current ones are all working on new games.
This came via Matt Booty, the head of Microsoft Studios, who said the following to IGN:
“It really comes back to people and ideas. I can’t get into specifics, but I’ll say that every one of our studios has got some kind of incubation going on and has got some kind of ideas. I think it has less to do with sort of a franchise and kind of this sort of set path, and more to do with ‘is there a core of an idea that’s out there?'”
Ironically, that was one criticism that many had with the Xbox showing at E3. For while there were many games announced for the system, many were multiplatform, and the few that were exclusive were mainly titles that have already been established, like Halo. In fact, 3 different Gears of War titles were revealed, which hasn’t inspired many.
But, Booty is confident in the future, especially because he’s letting everyone get their creative juices flowing to see what comes out:
“We’ve got a number of those things going on right now,” Booty continued. “I think you’ll see more of that unfold as we get a little bit further into the future—some of the unique things coming out of our studios.”
E3 2018 is not over yet, so it’s very possible that things could turn around and show that Xbox One will be a very immediate threat.
