Michael Ironside Talks Splinter Cell History and Wildlands DLC
When it comes to Ubisoft, they’re never afraid to do special crossovers. Just last year we saw Assassin’s Creed crossover with Final Fantasy, and the Rabbids got to team up with Mario. It was great stuff. Today, Ghost Recon: Wildlands has gotten its own very special DLC in the form of a Splinter Cell crossover. One that will bring the one true Sam Fisher into the game for you to control. Making it even purer is the fact that Michael Ironside is once again voicing the character.
Ironside has voiced Sam Fish in nearly every Splinter Cell game, save only for Blacklist. During a special interview with IGN, they welcomed him back to the role, to which he replied: “I never left. I am Sam Fisher.”
Despite his proclamation, it might surprise you to learn that originally, Ironside wasn’t interested in being Sam Fisher, and it was for a very understandable reason, he wasn’t much of a character at first.
“Sam was this one-line, two-dimensional character,” he said. “There [were] no organics to him. We created a backstory. We created a family [for him], and where he goes, and what he does, and who he trusts.”
And we are grateful, for these things truly helped define the character that is Sam Fisher, and his loyalty to his daughter has been a driving force in the games, including one game where he rescued her from kidnappers.
Now, the biggest question is, “Will Splinter Cell come back as a franchise?” Ubisoft has said they haven’t forgotten about it, and certain leaks make it seem that it is possible for Sam Fisher to return, but will he? Well, Ironside was a little coy when asked about it, but he did note:
“Let’s see if the storylines allow an organic [way to bring] Sam back.”
With E3 2018 about two months away, we could get his return there.
