Blizzard has, for better or worse, made a number of changes to Overwatch support hero Mercy as of late. She was subject to quite the overhaul recently, which in the eyes of many players made her overpowered, particularly in comparison to other healer heroes.
And now, on the public test realm, it appears as if she has undergone even more changes, which affect her ability in reviving other players, as well as her ability to fly. Back in September, she received a new Ultimate called Valkyrie, which gave herself a massive buff. Meanwhile, her previous Resurrect Ultimate was made into a regular ability than can only revive a single team mate.
The recent PTR now sees Mercy gain a free Resurrect change when using her new Ultimate, following the recent change that saw Valkyrie not reducing Resurrect’s cooldown, though it did double the range.
Principal designer Geoff Goodman addressed this on the official forums: “Valkyrie still no longer affects Resurrect’s cooldown directly now, but this method preserves some amount of ‘burst ressing’ when needed, while making it more flexible to use. For example, in the past if you want to res two targets with Valkyrie, you had to first res one target, then Ult (causing the cooldown to reset), then res the other target. With this new change you can now hit Valkyrie first, fly in quickly, and res two targets instantly.”
Overwatch is now available on PC, Xbox One and PS4.
