LibertyIV Mod Cancelled for Grand Theft Auto V
The recent ugly business surrounding the banning then subsequent un-banning of the modding tool OpenIV seemed to have died down. The crackdown on cheaters and other game-altering occurrences taking place in GTA Online and the single player of Grand Theft Auto V seems to be rolling on strong.
There was a massive backlash by the game’s PC community upon the original cease and desist order served to OpenIV, which led Take-Two and Rockstar Games to revise their policies of sorts and reinstate OpenIV’s modding tool, strictly for use on the single player aspect of the game. Sadly, the new rules state that content infringing on copyright and intellectual property rights is outlawed, which provides one proposed mod a deadly and conclusive blow.
The modding project Liberty IV has been in development for quite some time by OpenIV, which would bring the Liberty City map from Grand Theft Auto IV into GTA V, allowing players to fly or swim their way over to the city as they pleease. This setback could be a decisive one regarding the future of OpenIV, as they state that it was a big motivation for them to push OpenIV going forward.
This is an upsetting outcome for the modding community, for sure. As a source of providing skins, vehicles, locations and many other key features from pop culture or otherwise into games. This ruling seems to eradicate the porting of maps to GTA V, effectively killing off one of the most anticipated mods for the game in recent time.
