LawBreakers Could Flop After Low Beta Player Stats

The latest project from the creator’s of Gears of War has generated a lot of hype as of late. LawBreakers has had a bunch of media coverage and much more to get the word of the competitive shooter out there. Yet looking at the player base on Steam, it might not be as popular as expected.

When LawBreakers kicked off its closed beta back on June 28th, the class-based shooter soon followed up with an open beta a couple of days later. During this period of eight days, the beta attracted a peak of 7.5k players in a single hour, with daily averages coming in at around 3.5k players per hour over the course of the weekend. These low numbers meant that LawBreakers was only able to place as high as No. 73 on Steam’s most played list that week.

In comparison to Paladins, which attracted the most players per hour average in 2016, the free-to-play shooter debuted with a peak of 38k players in its fist weekend, and remains in Steam’s top 20 most played games with averages of 25k concurrent players on a daily basis.

This will be considered a flop by many, though it is worth keeping in mind that the beta for LawBreakers took place during the Steam Summer Sale, which on one hand could be seen as something that would help the beta statistics, it could also hinder them with so many other games to play at discounted prices.
