Kaz Hirai Is Stepping Down As Head of Sony
There are many recognizable names and faces in the video game industry, it’s what help makes things successful for the companies in it. This goes especially when that name or face is at the top of that brand, as you know to trust them, and listen to them when they speak. For Sony, their top guy for a while now has been Kaz Hirai, a man who has helped led the entertainment group to success year after year in many cases. Well, he has officially announced that he will be stepping down as CEO of the company.
To be clear, he is NOT being forced out. Far from it, he has actually revealed that this was his decision. He feels he has completed the goal he set for himself, and is ready to move on:
“Ever since my appointment as President and CEO in April 2012,” Hirai said in a statement, “I have stated that my mission is to ensure Sony continues to be a company that provides customers with kando – to move them emotionally – and inspires and fulfills their curiosity.”
While it may not have been obvious to the casual viewer of Sony’s business, Kaz Hirai has had a major impact on how the company has done business. He was one of the people who spearheaded the success of the PS2, including bringing classic games to the system like Jak & Daxter, Sly Cooper, and more. As if that wasn’t enough, when he was head of Sony Computer Entertainment of America, they always made high profit.
Through his leadership, Sony slimmed down what they offered in the world of entertainment, focusing on TV’s and gaming. Because of that, their profits increased. And though the PS3 wasn’t as big a success as they wanted it to be, the PS4 bounced back in a big way, and is leading the current console generation in sales, with its software sales also being very impressive.
Thank you for all you’ve done Kaz Hirai, we thank you for your service.
