Jagged Alliance: Rage! is the latest title that’s trying to capture the charm of the original Jagged Alliance game. The last few failed at this task, so let’s hope this new one impresses us.
Some developers really want to resurrect certain franchise. Unfortunately, things don’t always go your way when you’re trying to capture a feel that made a certain game feel awesome 20 years ago. We’ve had various Jagged Alliance games in the last few years like Jagged Alliance: Back in Action and Jagged Alliance: Flashback. Both of these games ended up being rather lackluster, so the fans of this franchise don’t expect much from Jagged Alliance: Rage.
The gameplay trailer for the game was pretty solid. But, there were certain things in this gameplay trailer that players didn’t like. That was the style of the game, which many people said reminds them of the new XCOM games. While that isn’t anything bad from our perspective, the fans of the franchise want that feel and look of Jagged Alliance no matter what.
This particular title is set 20 years after the first game. This time you’re going to be facing drugged soldiers in the jungle, which sounds pretty fun. The interesting part of Rage is that besides the baddies that you’re going to take on, there are other things that you must worry about as well. Dehydration and psychological trauma also play a role in surviving the luscious jungle. This dark addition is welcome in our book, as it further emphasizes that you’re surviving in an overgrown jungle.
Jagged Alliance: Rage could be the title that breaks the curse of these newer Jagged Alliance games, but it could also fail in the same way they did. But, we’re hoping it ends up being good in the end.
