It Appears Nier: Automata Still Has Secrets
Developers love their secrets, don’t they? Many of them will hold out on what they know, waiting for the right time to reveal it. Or, they’ll hide something in one of their games to see if people will find it. Numerous developers do this for the sake of fun, however, some secrets can actually affect the game itself. Such is the case apparently with Nier: Automata, the beloved RPG game from Platinum Games which was hailed as one of the best games of 2017 by many.
The game was already deep enough, with a compelling story that required multiple playthroughs to see how dark it went. However, in an anniversary piece in Famitsu, there’s apparently one secret left to find:
“‘That’ has yet to be discovered,” reads the story. “It will definitely be unpleasant, so the developers will not officially announce what it is. For various reasons, this specification was put into the game. If they are more detailed about what it is, problems might occur, so they cannot say anything more. It is the final secret of NieR: Automata…”
Well, that’s not foreboding at all! Given how dark and sad the game was, this “final secret” could literally be anything. It could even be a Matrix-sized twist that can make you change how you feel about the game…again. Needless to say, once this spreads, there’s going to be a lot of people going back to Nier: Automata to try and figure out what the secret is.
The game not only deserves all the praise it got for being an excellent title, but it also deserves praise for saving Platinum Games. They were at a very low point after Microsoft canceled Scalebound, which was meant to be their next great project. Because of the sales and reception of Nier, they were able to stay open, and a sequel is also in the works.
