Is The Final Fantasy VII Remake In Trouble?
Square Enix is one of the best video game developers and publishers out there today. They’re the masterminds behind titles like Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Dragon Quest, and more. They have a reputation for making amazing titles. But, they also have a history of long development times and restructuring projects. And that is what’s going on right now with Final Fantasy VII Remake, a modern update of the classic RPG title. Yet, according to a former member of the team, things are a lot worse than you might think.
This comes from a special Reddit thread, where former employee Dan Tsukasa, who actually worked on Final Fantasy VII and knows people who are working on the new game, talked about the issues Square Enix is having with the title. This includes starting artwork with one company and then taking it away and starting over because it was “useless”:
“When has a company taking work away from another company ever been a positive sign of things? I know CyberConnect’s work was unusable, I’ve worked with them before, i know their level,” he said.
He went on to note that the recovery process isn’t helping:
“And I know they outsourced to hell and back in order to get things to the point we saw them publicly, and it still wasn’t enough to save them.”
So it literally sounds like, if he’s to be believed and his sources credible, that Final Fantasy VII Remake is indeed on the brink of collapse. Which actually does feel right. We’ve only ever seen one “video’ from the game, and that was during the reveal of the game years ago, it’s no doubt advanced greatly since then. And though we’ve seen concept art, that’s about it.
What can we expect from this game? And when will it ever come out? Only Square Enix knows.
