Is Sony Shopping Out The PS5?
The life cycle of a console begins the day it launches, and ends the moment it becomes truly obsolete. Publishers have to be thinking of the future the moment their newest hardware arrives. And right now, one of the biggest questions console-wise is whether the PS5 is coming to a home near you. Rumors and speculation have been swirling, and despite the PS4 doing surprisingly well in the opening months this year, it won’t last forever. Fortunately, there is news that could change things.
For Eurogamer reports that Mark Cerny is “on the road” and going to both publishers and developers to show off the new system. Or, at the very least, asking the teams what they feel the PS5 should have in order to gain their support. This is important as Cerny was the head of the hardware development for the PS4. So having him on the road might be the first step, or a significant jump in the process of the console’s development.
And to be honest, Sony needs to get their head in the game in regards to the next console generation. Especially since Nintendo is doing aces right now with their new system the Nintendo Switch. It was the Switch, and not the Xbox One, that has dethroned its top spot on the NPD charts for many months over the last year, and when the major 1st party games roll back Nintendo’s way, that will likely happen again.
The question now is, what will the PS5 try to offer? The easiest answer is that they’re try and maximize their graphical power and efficiency so that the games that are on the system can be the best possible. But, is that enough? The Switch proved that games and technique are just as important. Could Sony pull a swerve and do something else? Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
