New World is Amazon’s ambitious and ambiguous MMO that we don’t much about, but we got a look at some in-game footage.
What do we think? Is this the exciting new thing that we were expecting? Well, for starters, there is not much to look at in this video. We just get a character running around the place showing the environments. The land that we get to see is pretty, but it’s generic fantasy. The graphics are quite vibrant and gloomy, very pleasing to look at. But, everyone in chat keeps mentioning one thing. New World looks like a survival game of sorts. The description talks about harvestable resources.
While this is, in fact, our very first look at gameplay, it’s like the bone without the meat. This is where they need to show us the thing that makes this game different. Something unique, unlike the games that we usually see in this genre. Still, this is Amazon we’re talking about. Would they make some run-of-the-mill survival MMO? Probably not, but can we get some information, anything, about the actual gameplay?
Then again, this is the alpha footage. And what they did show does look quite amazing. So, let’s not jump to any conclusions. Let’s wait until they are ready to show proper gameplay before we decide. A lot of money is being invested into this thing, so it’s built to impress. We are intrigued, and we want to see more. New World could be the next phenomenon in gaming waiting to happen.
