Is EA Working On An Open World Star Wars Title?
The history of Star Wars as a video game franchise is actually one that mimics the movies and books that they were born from. They started out strong, then got pretty murky in the middle, and then bounced back in a big way. And, now unlike The Last Jedi, the last major game, Battlefront II, was one of the most polarizing things to come out of 2017. Irony, am I right? But, with money still to be made, and the franchise still very popular, you know more games are coming.
The question is, what? Video game developer Visceral was said to be making a Star Wars game, but they got shut down by their publisher EA, which made many gamers unhappy because what they saw of the game was very encouraging. Well, EA may yet earn back your favor, for a job listing states that an open world game set in a galaxy far, far away is coming.
We don’t know much, but the job listing is for a “Lead Online Engineer”, and their job will be to “Lead a team to deliver Online features for a Star Wars Open World project.” That’s thin, but it’s enough to get people excited.
After all, though the video games have done many different things before, an open world title is not one of them. The closest we ever got was Knights of the Old Republic where there was freedom in the RPG, but not on a grand scale. And while the Old Republic was technically open world, it was also an MMORPG, so that kind of cancels that out.
Based on how the listing was worded, this makes it seem like it’ll be a singleplayer experience, but with some multiplayer capabilities. How far will it go though? Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
