The one thing that can’t be undersold about the video game industry is that it’s global. Now yes, you can find certain hotspots for developers like in Japan, the US, and certain European countries, but you might be surprised by how many video game studios there are in unlikely places. Say Poland for instance. Kind of random? No, not really, Poland has a lot of indie game publishers, and they even have a brand called Indie Games Poland which helps these developers make their games and get spotlight on them. Which, is why they’re bringing many games to Gamescom.
How many exactly? Well, 20 different games from various Polish studios will be in attendance, and many of the team members will be available to be interviewed should you be there and want to meet them. In fact, there’s a Indie Games Poland booth in Business Area Hall 4.1 A-015 of the event. So stop on by and play their games.
What are some of the games you can expect from the Indie Games Poland booth? Well, there’s Diggerman, an old-school arcade game about “love and mud”. There’s Find The Balance, which is a “one-finger mobile game” that plays a bit like Tetris in that you have to position blocks carefully in order to make an object perfectly balanced.
Runventure is a title that has you controlling a character that can either run or jump based on what you do. Apocalipsis – Harry at the end of the world, an old-school point and click adventure game. Warlocks 2: God Slayers, a humorous take on the Metroidvania genre. And that’s only a few of what’s coming to Gamescom.
In the end, these games might show you that some of the best games can come from countries you wouldn’t associate with video games. So if you’re at Gamescom from August 22nd-24th, you might want to check them out.
