We haven’t seen a developer blog for Hellion for quite a while regarding anything major, so it has come at a good time for them to let us know what they have been working on as of late.
The latest blog outlines the game’s roadmap and what they are working towards, with a primary focus being on damage and repair mechanics. Marko Smiljanic, creative director over at Zero Gravity, revealed their upcoming plans: “We are excited to implement mechanics that will take the PvE aspect of the game to a new level. Immersion plays a big role in Hellion and recreating the harsh conditions of space is a major part of it. After all, space is a dangerous place and it won’t hesitate to kill you if it catches you off guard, even for a second.”
The changes described are ones that will be introduced one by one in future updates, just to allow them a bit more time for testing and gathering feedback to make further improvements.
One key feature is damage, degradation and repair, of which the concept art between loading screens may have been picked up on by players. This means that ships will no longer be invulnerable, and players will be required to repair and maintain any damage that they make, with damage coming in the forms of degradation and collision.
